Looking at the other side

And what does that exactly mean?

I just learned the day before yesterday was the “International Day of Older Persons”.

Are we celebrating that we have elderly people around us? Why? How? I mean, just that day?

The United Nations is one of those institution that does not make sense any more, another cog in the propaganda machinery. An institution that is funded with tax money from citizens from all around the world.

I'm lucky to have valuable old friends in my life. Interestingly, most of my friends are old.

'Old' is one of those words full of subjectivity. But let's say I have close friends that are closer to the age of my parents than mine. One of them is an octogenarian artist living in Amsterdam. When I was in high-school, I used to hang out with the faculty staff more than with my classmates—excluding my two closest friends. My first girlfriend was the older sister of a classmate in secondary school.

It is weird, I know.

I always thought I was too boring for the people of my age—and, honestly, the other way around too.

This is neither good nor bad, it is what it is.

Although it was sometimes inconvenient to be surrounded with people from another generation, I think I gained interesting perspectives on life. Also, it was a relief to have people to talk with—it helped me to cope with the fact that people from my age considered me a weirdo.

It is exciting when I find someone within my age range with whom I can have meaningful and deep conversations. But I also fear it won't last long, so, I tend to feel extremely grateful and be equally cautious.

Time, a perpetual forward motion, a continuous becoming.

Memories, those mental constructs that somehow pull us backward.

Where does the arrow of time point when we are thinking about the past?

No matter where our mind dwells, we are making choices, consciously or not, life-changing or irrelevant. Is it possible to know a priori the relevance of each decision?

And, What happens when we choose? Does a parallel universe spawn?

Or maybe, just maybe, we live in a deterministic universe whilst fooling ourselves with the illusion of free will.

Perhaps time is not a line, but a circle.

Thus, if causality holds, a hurricane that will occur on the other side of the ocean is causing the butterfly's movement in my garden as I write this.

And your reading is causing my writing as well.

(Taken from an old blog, edited and re-published)

The (quasi) holiday in Spain is over. Weather is much nicer here.

Honestly, I prefer to stay at the place I call home. I dislike being at the places that you're supposed to visit on each major city, refuse to take selfies—and don't take that many pics, in general. Touristic places packed with people, all doing the same thing, is, monotonous. It is surprising how the gear has evolved over the last years, selfie sticks have now more electronics in it. Smarter devices that make us dumber.
